WHAT WE DO

Together we can create a world with fewer suicides

At PROSPER, we believe in a future where every individual has the strength, support and resources to overcome life’s darkest moments.

United in our mission to prevent suicide globally, we collaborate with communities, governments, leaders, law enforcement, and healthcare organizations to reduce systemic risk.

More about us

CHANGING LIVES

How We Help You PROSPER

Our mission

To reduce suicide risk in communities through strength-based, culturally consistent education, empowerment, and community engagement.

Our approach

While implementing prevention, intervention, and postvention, we unite communities by focusing on their shared culture and values. Effective suicide prevention is not a one-size-fits-all process; we must build trust and empower people, meeting them where they are—not where we want them to be.

Our communities

PROSPER is a global coalition spanning cultures and nations, dedicated to suicide risk reduction through strength-based, culturally responsive education. We are committed to long-term community engagement and empowerment, fostering a world where life is valued and community bonds are strong.

About Dr. Kent Corso

With Kent's leadership, we're putting these principles into action, empowering communities to foster connectedness and proactive change. Our methods are tailored to meet the unique needs of each community, implementing our goal to make life worth living for everyone.

Who we partner with

Non-profit organizations and foundations

Many of our partners are non-profit organizations who have secured government grants to improve rural mental health, including suicide prevention, care coordination, opioid use disorders or youth mental health. We provide them technical assistance and workforce development in various formats including podcast series, pre-recorded webinars, live webinars and training.

Health and mental health organizations

We partner with various health organizations to enhance clinician competence, confidence, and comfort across disciplines, such as medicine, nursine, mental health, occupational therapy and applied behavior analysis. Our support includes revising policies to better the care quality for distressed patients and their families, leading to more patient-centered care, an empowered workforce, and reduced patient risk.

Governmental organizations and partners

In North America, we assist U.S. and Canadian governments in adopting risk reduction strategies with effective resource allocation, policies and metrics. Focused on populations such as those with intellectual disabilities, First Nations, veterans, and law enforcement, our methods have reduced suicides by 47% in two years within military and law enforcement, and 50% in rural communities.

FAQ.

How does PROSPER TOGETHER work?

Our programs apply the contemporary suicidology research to deliver practical solutions for professionals, patients, community members, and policy-makers who wish to reduce suicide risk proactively. Because suicide is influenced by culture, these solutions must fit the culture of the patient and community. No other suicide prevention, intervention and postvention program leverage culture and values to motivate system change. The technology of applied behavior analysis and methods of organizational behavior management are instrumental in helping communities engage and evolve. Our solutions are engineered for easy implementation, helping us accelerate the translation of science to practice.

Who should take the PROSPER TOGETHER courses?

Our programs serve the diversity of community members including policy and decision makers, elected officials, business owners, clinicians, educators, and community members. This includes youths ages 12 and older, as PROSPER delivers upstream prevention information, as well as intervention and postvention training.

How is your program different from tried-and-true gatekeeper programs such as ASIST, SafeTALK and QPR?

The programs above are long-standing and essential for helpers and others and serves as a critical foundation for those seeking to engage in gatekeeper programs and behavior. PROSPER is the next step forward once an organization or community has mastered the basics of gatekeeper strategies.

What is the evidence to support this unique approach?

Our methods employ the last forty years of suicidology research using a population health approach. But one size does not fit all. We integrate the results of multiple scientific approaches producing a robust and multi-faceted approach to community suicide prevention. We have empowered patients, fostered connectedness in communities, and spurred community engagement according to the community’s values across North America, Asia, New Zealand and Europe yielding as high as 50% reductions in suicides in some communities

My organization or company has numerous providers and provider types. How do I know which program type is right for me?

Anyone can take the learning modules listed on this learning platform. In person training is also offered for communities and organizations seeking the most contemporary suicide management strategies. Please contact us at [email protected] to arrange a training

I see several different cultures and communities listed on this learning platform. What if mine is not listed?

If your culture or community is not listed on this site, we suggest you review the resources under “United Kingdom” or “North America” as many of the needs are across these cultures. If these cultures are not similar to yours, we would love to work with you. We enjoy serving diverse communities and expect our list of additional communities to grow overtime. If we are not familiar with your community, we will develop curriculum tailored to your needs, guided by the suicidology research. Please contact us at [email protected] to discuss further
